VALLEY VIEW, AUS – In my ongoing quest to break 80, I got as close as I’d ever been on the weekend. Under near perfect conditions I started my round with a par then a tap in bogey on the 2nd. This was unfortunately followed up with a 9 on the short par 3 third. Don’t ask me how, I took so many shots I can barely remember myself.
Still hopeful, I recovered with two pars and a bogey before the 7th, which would have also been a par if it weren’t for the two drives out of bounds off the tee.
Figuring I’d just have a can of beer or three to loosen up the swing, it seemed to help. Finishing the front nine on a respectable 42, there was still a chance to break 80.
Cracking another beer to help continue the par run didn’t seem to help this time, and from the 11th onwards the rest of the round was a bit of a blur with only a few faint memories of trying to wrap my wedge around a tree.
In the end the card ended up somewhere around the 112 mark, but I remain hopeful I can break the 80 next week when I play Valley View Par 3 Golf Course again.
